This page contains general tips and hints for Resident Evil: Village. These suggestions are spoiler-safe and focus on helping new players understand the game's systems, exploration, and combat flow.
Exploration Tips
Exploration is a major part of the game, and the map is one of your most valuable tools:
Rooms marked red still contain items or interactables you haven't collected.
Rooms marked blue are fully explored.
Breakable objects like crates, vases, and cabinets often blend into the environment.
Listen for audio cues — enemies, flies, and environmental sounds often hint at danger or secrets.
Locked doors often become shortcuts later, so don't worry if you can't open everything immediately.

Combat Tips
Combat in Village rewards patience and precision:
Guarding reduces incoming damage significantly — use it often.
Aim for weak points: headshots stagger most enemies, leg shots slow them down.
Shotguns are ideal for close-quarters encounters and crowd control.
Sniper rifles excel in open areas and against slow, tanky enemies.
Pipe bombs and mines are extremely effective in tight spaces.
Magnums are very effective against high-HP enemies like bosses, but ammo is scarce, so save them for key encounters.
Map & Navigation
The map provides more information than many players realize:
Treasure icons indicate valuable items that can be sold to The Duke.
Some treasures are combinable — don't sell them until you have all pieces.
Doors are color-coded: red for locked, blue for unlocked, yellow for interactable objects.
The map updates automatically when you read notes or examine objects.
First Playthrough vs. New Game+
Your first playthrough is designed to be tense and resource-limited. New Game+ changes the experience:
Your weapons, upgrades, and Lei carry over into New Game+.
Enemies scale slightly, but your gear advantage makes the game easier.
You can unlock powerful bonus weapons through the Extra Content Shop.
Speedrunning and challenge runs become much more viable after your first clear.
Weapon & Upgrade Advice
Upgrading weapons is essential, but you don't need to upgrade everything:
Focus on 1-2 main weapons early (usually the handgun and shotgun).
Damage upgrades give the best value for Lei.
Save magnum ammo for bosses — it's extremely rare.
Buy inventory upgrades from The Duke as soon as possible.
Crafting & Resource Management
Crafting helps you stay stocked without overspending:
Craft handgun ammo frequently — it's your most reliable resource.
Shotgun ammo is best saved for emergencies or elite enemies.
Healing items are cheap to craft, so keep at least one on hand.
Don't hoard crafting materials — the game expects you to use them.
The Duke
The Duke is more than just a merchant:
Enemies will never attack you near The Duke.
He offers cooking services after Castle Dimitrescu — these provide permanent stat boosts.
Sell crystalized remains immediately; they have no other purpose.
Check his inventory often — new items appear as you progress.
Challenges & Unlimited Ammo
After completing the game for the first time, you unlock access to the Extra Content Shop, where you can spend Completion Points (CP) earned from challenges. These challenges reward you for exploring, defeating enemies, and completing specific tasks.
CP is earned account-wide and can be spent on bonus weapons, concept art, and gameplay modifiers.
Unlimited ammo for a weapon only becomes available after fully upgrading that weapon in a playthrough.
Unlimited ammo does not affect weapon stats — you still benefit from all upgrades.
You can activate or deactivate unlimited ammo options from the Bonuses menu.
Challenges can be completed across multiple playthroughs, so nothing is missable.
